The name of this color comes from the kermes dye extracted from the dried bodies female Kermes vermilio, a scale insect found in the Mediterranean region. This red dye and its production process has been known for thousands of years. The ease of production of a similar dye, carmine, from cochineal, another scale insect, decreased the use of kermes dye.
This red crimson color is from the web list and can be used by name in HTML and CSS code. One can also apply the color to a web page with its hex, RGB or HSL values. Please also note that the Crimson CMYK numbers mentioned on this page are only approximations and have been calculated from the hex code using well-known formulae.
