French Ultramarine is the synthetic version of the blue ultramarine color that was traditional produced by grinding the lapis lazuli mineral. The color was made in France by two different scientists Jean Baptiste Guimet in 1826 and Christian Gmelin in 1828. The latter published his research and laid the foundation for the synthetic or artificial ultramarine industry.
